*•— JChief Sullivan described the knife, given to Warden Powell by Jackson when they escaped, as a long, pearl-handled folding knife with an inch wide razor-sharp blade The police chief uid he saw the weapon when he was in the warden's office Thursday night during a discussion of tactics to quell the rioters.Jack son. who left the prison with Powell and se- eral other prisoners, is now in custody outside the prison walls. He wan sentenced to eight jears for grand larceny in Dillon and was received at the prison June 21. 1957According to police records Jackson has been in Montana since 1955 when he was picked up in Maker for investigation I.ater in the ame year he was arrested for vagrancy in Livingston and floated out ot town. In 195G he was arrested on suspicion of stealing gas and later releasedJackson s first arrest waa in Fort Worth. Texas for vagrancy on Feb. 9, 1934 On his next arrest he was sentenced to three yean at the state prison in McAlester. Okla.. for car theft. He escaped from there and was next arrested in Bisbee. Aril., for passing counterfeit money and served two years at the federal prison on McNeil Island after which he was returned to Oklahoma. He also served two years in the Texas state prison for incest. Hit record also shows arrests for assault with a deadly weapon and violation of both the alcohol and narcotica acta.
