Mrs. Barrett said that Mrs. Henneberger claimed to be a private detective and she felt confident that her whilom customer had given publicity to the rumor affecting Airs. Cox. She insisted that she had never seen anything wrong in Mrs. Cox, who had been boarding with her since early in August. Among the sensational rumors afloat in the neighborhood was one to the effect that about 2:h0 o’clock several nights ago fire was discovered in Mrs. Cox's room. Mrs. Barrett was asked about it and she said that it was true that the curtains had been set on fire, but she thoughtthat perhaps Airs. Cox had done it in her sleep. “No, I didn’t,” said Aire. Cox, who had come to the door of her apartments openiug out on the veranda, where Air. and Airs. Barrett and the reporter stood. The diamonds in Airs. She is a young married woman with a spirituelle face. She and her huslmd expressed deep regret thatthek names had gotten into the papers. They said that Airs, ilenne-berger and Detective Grady, who came to the house to get Airs. Poisel’s statement. promised to leave Airs. Poisel’s name out of the affair. Airs. Poisel's version of the confession was this: “I was at the altar iu the church, and Airs. Cox was near me. I had a vision and saw a man of middle age, dressed in black.
