Hazel Walker, 1548 Ball St., that her auto had been stolen after officers had kept the auto under observation since 1:09 a.m. after It was seen parked in a driveway on Second St. off Maple St.Officer Carl Skamfer spotted the car being driven west on Maple and followed it. He said It turned onto Second St. and the driver turned off Its lights. Seconds later Skamfer found it empty; where it had been parked in the driveway.He parked nearby and reported he saw three to five figures in the parking lot of the Super Valu store. He said they started to climb down a wall to the car when they suddenly started to run.The officer found that an approaching auto had scared them off. He checked the area and found the garage door was open at the service station at 305 Third St. Nothing appeared to have been disturbed, he said.The auto was kept under surveillance for the remainder of the night but no one returned, police said. Saturday morning oolice checked out the ownership of the car and then notified Mrs. Walker that her auto had been stolen.
