PLACEO li THE PARK.Handsom® Fountain Presented tothe City in Memory of theLale R, M, Raab.Has Been Placed In Crapo Park - la a Magoiliccol Structure and Attracted MucAttention Yesterday.The beautiful bronze drinking fountain presented to the city of Burlington by Mrs. R. M. Raab in memory of her husband, the late It. M. Raab, has bet n installed in Crapo Park, being situated near the main entrance anddirectly west of the cannon. I^ast week Mr. O. M. Burnis had a force of men atwork on the big undertaking and yesterday the completed structure was the cyr.. sure of thousands of eyes. Though not yet ready for use, as soon astlie pump is in order, a stream of ice coldwater will pour from the handsomely decorated fountainThe structure which was built at a cost of $.'{.000 occupies a commanding position near the entrance, and is in fact the prettiest and best of its kind west of Chicago. The entire fountain and base weighs in the neighborhood of six tous.1 he buff stone base, eleven feet indiameter is hexagonal in shape, and built in the form of stepstoll within reaching distance of the water faucets.The bronze fountain part is nearly twelve feet high and is sumounted bya magnificent vase which is three anda half feet in heigth. There are eight troughs, four for man and four fordogs. Those for man are of a pretty design, the water pouring from adragon mouth, tin flow being regulated by an automatic stop button.By a novel arrangement the artesian water is to be cooled, so as to be drinkable on the hottest summer duv. Pn-der the fountain is constructed an ice box, with an iron door, and the water will be put in iron coils around thisice before it reaches the faucets.The entire structure is a marvel ofarchitectural beauty aside from itsconvenience, and will add much to thepleasures of a visit to Crapo Park. The people of Burlington have good cause to remember its donor and to eulogizethe late R. M. Raab.44«4«
