W, Stubbs, a miller, was murdered la his own home at Polk City, Iowa, Friday night or at an early hour Saturday morning. To a Register reporter the wife of the murdered man told the followingi ' .story:“I was awakened about S o’clock by the flashing of a bright light Into my face. I thought at first the house was on fire, and I cried to my husband, who was in another bed. I said Robert.” Atthat I heard a voice say “Be still.” Icalled again to my husband, and be raised up in bed. I then noticed that the light proceeded from a dark lantern, and from behind it some one shouted to my husband, “Lie still, you son of a b—h,” My husband did not pay any attention to the command, so the robber reached a revolver out In front ot the lantern andfired, I do not think the man was in side the door, 1 just got a glimpse of him aa he put his hand through the door I saw the revolver as it went off, As he fired my husband said “You have shot me,” and jumped up and started after the man, who either ran down stairs or jumped over the banister. When my husband got outside the door of the bed toon: I heard a crashing noise, and going down stairs I found him at the bottom of the stairs{ near the front door, with his head inside the door of the west room and his feet out in the hall.
