College students and business men’s volunteers were joined by small groups of outlaw1 strikers returning to work in operating trains throughout the east. All lines announced an increase in service. Sometreported In efforts to move freight. The strike leaders who were Jailed in Chicago reported that they were ready to compromise by calling off the strike and returning to work in return for recognition in their organizations and own release. Workers are still out on the Pacific coast cities. In the west the situation is reported easier. Hundreds of thousands of workers who were thrown without employment by the strike are still Idle. Industries are sorely crippled by the walkout. Further arrests .are predicted. Members of the railroad board are hastening to Washington to meet as soon as that the strike did collapse following his revelations. A dozen crews returned to work in the St. Louis terminal. Kansas City switching conditions are one fourth of normal with one hundred crews.
