A couple of weeks ago, on Sunday, in ; Washington, Daviess county, a man by j the name of Newton Ritter, went to the j livery stable of Meredith Trante, and I wlicn standing by the door lie pulled out ; a pistol and saying, “here goes for my I heart,” placed the muzzle against his breast just above the heart, and pulled the trigger. The ball entering just ] above the heart, ranged downward, and lodged near the shoulder-blade. The poor man was taken to his home near the coal dump, where his wife and four ; children were iound in a state of great \ destitution, not havimr anything to eat j7 C v Oin the house. The day before the man shot himself, we are informed, j the children were on the street begging, and they, of course, had to be provided for by the county. Ritter gave as a reason for the rash act that he was tired of living, ami wanted to die. lie was heavily under the influence of liquor when he shot himself, it is said. At the time of writing this he was yet living, but of course there were no hopes of his recovery. j
