FELLOW TEXANS:Any politician is required to defend his conduct and his record. The public has the right to know whether or not he is a crook.This is what I have required of my two opponents. Materials are from U.S. District Courts, State Court records, the Texas Senate Journal, Texas House of Representatives Journal, and newspaper files. I cite references and supply photostats.On April 8, in a widely published letter, Aaron Schwartz stated that he respected Mr. Neugentas an individual.” He was not so generous with me. This is the first public admission that their campaigns are linked, and most likely have the same financial backing. While in the legislature, Neugent and Schwartz worked frequently together and “fathered” numerous utility districts, until these were banned. Later, they both became “stars” at Sharpstown.As for myself, the senator has made the following allegations:1) That I could not find a lawyer in Galveston to take a civil suit against three governmental agencies. FALSE. Malcolm Smith, of Austin, has been attorney of record all along.2) That he (Schwartz) refused to take a medical malpractice suit. FALSE. Tom Weatherly, of Vinson, Elkins, Connally and Smith, of Houston, was designated to be my carrier and has remained with the case, which is now dead for lack of prosecution.3) That he refused to represent me when I took the fifth amendment during a deposition in a theft case. No situation like this ever occurred and Aaron Schwartz is well aware of his lie.4)My present state of mind. I feel great. Aaron Schwartz knows that you need a psychiatric treatment record to be immune from such slander.Schwartz has already sued me for over one million dollars, (but only one dollar actually) rather than publicly defend his record. In the next few days, I expect any kind of bizarre suits to be filed, this time by members of his political machine. Of course, the suits and charges will appear too late to answer. I hope you will understand..I regret the necessity of this letter. Unfortunately, Aaron Schwartz is an obscene reality, and must be dealt with in this manner.Sincerely yours,
