III., WPA worker and was sent to St. Charles a year ago for theft and delinquency. 11 is victim | is Mrs. Meta Christiansen, 77. wife of Chris Christiansen, a farmer residing two miles west ofGeneva.She still was unconscious at the Geneva community hospital today, suffering from four skull fractures, and an attendant said ishehad little chance to live.Christiansen, authorities said, has been employing parolees from St. Charles for 25 years. He hired Denton yesterday, then left his farm on a business trip. Mrs. Christiansen, who was conscious for a time, told deputy sheriffs that the youth had crept up behind her while she was washing dishes and struck her on the head with the hatchet.I 1“He didn't say anything,” she said. “I tried to fight him off.” !After the attack, she crawled to a telephone and summoned her I daughter, Mrs. Clarence Peterson.Authorities had not SSCci ’tainedthe motive for the attack.
