Barnfireslito arsonFrom staff reportsInvestigators suspect the same firebug or firebugs who burned down a bam early Thursday morning also burned two other barns located between Walkersville and Ubertytown since April 1, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.The fires, within three miles of each other, have caused a total of about $55,000 damage to the structures and to machinery and supplies inside the barns, said Robert R. Thomas, deputy chief state fire marshal. No injuries were reported, and no animals were in the barns.All the fires occurred after dark, he said.The most recent barn fire was reported at about 1:40 a.m. Thursday in the 1060 block of Daysville Road, Mr. Thomas said.The barn, 200 bales of hay and a hay elevator inside the barn were destroyed, he said. About $20,000 damage resulted.Walter Flanagan owned the barn, Mr. Thomas said.About $15,000 damage resulted when a barn, owned by James Reese, burned down late Monday night in the 11000 block of Alton Road, Mr. Thomas said.A pickup and about 50 bales of hay inside the barn were also destroyed, he said. The fire was reported atabout 11 p.m.On April 1, about two miles from Thursday morning’s fire, a fire was reported at a barn in the 11700 block of Daysville Road at about 2:20 a.m., he said.About $20,000 damage resulted, he said. The barn was owned by Robert Myers, Mr. Thomas said.The fire marshal’s office requests anyone with information about the suspected arsons to call 694-2565 or 1-800-492*7529. A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest or indictment of anyone responsible for the fires.
