EUREKA RIVER(By The Gazettes Correspondent)EUREKA RIVER, April 3.—Avery enjoyable dance was held on Friday, March 31st at the Mon-tagneuse School House. The music was of high order, the musicians being, the Somers brothers, T.Walker and the Portsmouth brothers. Everyone had a real goodtime.Mrs. E. Walden has taken ahomestead in 86-7.Lem West had the misfortune to lose a fine mare last week. It died on the road to Hines Creek.The petition circulated here, j asking for an extension of telephone service to Eureka River, was largely signed and has been i forwarded to W. H. Bailey, M.L.A. i The answer to the petition is eager- j ly awaited by everyone.* Dr. O. J. Me Fad yen, of Fair-view, paid a professional visit to the Reserve, last week, where some of the Indians have been ail- j ing. What with the deep snow i and a poor trapping season the j Indians have had a very hard time. This should not be. These Indians are wards of the government and the keeping of them in a state of: semi-starvation, in some cases of actual want, is not playing the game straight with them. V e understand the proper officials have been notified with no results.
