*iwn4«y, April 13,1969—Von Nuys (Calif.)Alleged Purse Thief ChasedrrCaptured by Alert PasserbywAn alleged purse sriatcher Was chased, corraled and cap-toured Friday morning by an Inspector from the Dept, of ' Water and Power, Foothill Division police reported.Margaret L. Hayward 22, of,. 7736 Summitrose Ave., Sun land, said she was walking eastbound on the north side of ; Foothill Blvd. when a man approached from the rear and ‘grabbed her purse.The man then kicked her three times, striking her on the right side and causing her to let go of the purse.Residents Aid PoliceThe robber then fled, running westbound toward a shopping center with a witness, Audrey Ellis of 10923 Whitegate, Sunland in pursuit.Foothill Division police received the call and Officer Paul Hollenbeck drove to the scene. As he traveled southbound on Oro Vista Ave., he , observed a city light truck at the corner of Grenoble St. andpro Vista.Residents were pointing in the direction the robber had ..been chased down the street., r As Officer Hollenbeck approached 8423 ’Grenoble, two .. unidentified citizens pointed to the rear of the house and said, ./They are back thereifAs the officer made his way to the rear of the residence, he observed the alleged suspect with a broken bottle in each hand facing another man, identified as Carlyle Fulton of 10257 Scoville St., Sunland, inspector with the water and! power company.When the suspect saw the officer, he dropped one of the bottles and removed a red wallet from his pocket and threw it down by the garage.Officer Hollenbeck then toldthe man, later identified as David L. Allen 18, of 1090 Bite St., North Hollywood, to drop the other bottle. Allen did andhe was handcuffed and takento Foothill Division jail. Cornered by PursuerFulton said he witnessed the robbery and chased the suspect for three blocks before corraling him in the backyard. He said the alleged robber then picked up two bottles, broke them and attempted to swing them at him.Fulton said he picked up a large flower pot and told the suspect to stay where he was. At this time Officer Hollenbeck arrived.Mrs. Hayward’s purse and wallet with $7 were recovered and booked as evidence as were the two broken bottles.
