W» William J. Pomeroy, renegade American Communist, told his captors last night he Xell into an array ambush only because he was not Wearing his glasses.He said he could not see well enough to light or escape into the dense jungle. He didn't .say when he lost the glasses.Pomeroy and hall a dozen fellow Communist Huks were captured Good Friday morning in the High Sierra 35 miles northeast of Manila; The onetime U. S. soldier from Rochester, N. Y., is reported to be chief of the Huk propaganda staff.URGES EXECUTION(In Manila, Defense Secretary Ramon Magsaysay said he would seek the death penalty for Pomeroy, whose crimes “are the same as those of the Communist Politburo members.” He said Pomeroy would be tried' for murder and arson.(The islands’ leading Politburo men, convicted of rebellion'with murder, robbery and arson, have been sentenced to (Jeath.)Soldiers bringing Pomeroy out of the mountains spent Saturday night .on a rocky trail, rather than risk an encounter with roving Huk bands.A detachment at Sibol Spring! is maintaining contact with the troops by portable radio.Pomeroy's captors said napalm (jellied gasoline/ bombs dropped by Air Force planes flushed the American from his' hideout.
