According to a statement coming tothe Messenger, Kasley and Johnson, who were related by marriage, had had some trouble of a domestic nature, and Sunday afternoon Johnson went to the garage where Easley was at work, and attacked him with a wrench. Kasley, at the time of the attack, was working on a car. and was under it when Johnson hit him on the left leg with the wrench. Witnesses stated that while Johnson was abusing and striking at Kasley, the young man drew a 'V- pistol from his shirt and fired point-blank at Johnson. Five bullets entered Johnon’s head.and lie died instantly.Ku!ey was brought to the Heeatur jail by Sheriff Huge. and Mondayafternoon in Squire Brady’s court lie mlived examining trial and was admitted to bail in the sum of S2,o(Hi, which was given immediately, withtwelve of the most prominent and substantial men in the ( hico country as surities. Kasley. accompanied by a number of friends, left immediately for his home in ( hico. He was limping* badly, the result of a severe lt;*nton his left leg, inflicted by Johnsonwhen he attacked him with the wreach.Mrs. Johnson is Easley’s half-sister,and it is said that she recently instituted divorce proceedings in the court here.
