$500 Reward Offered I n Area Stabbing CaseThe parents of a Rockford youth injured in a stabbing in cident near Sauk Valley Col lege Thursday night, April 6. are offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the assailants, according to ValGalindo of the Illinois Division of InvestigationGalindo said this morning that state police currently have no leads regarding the two hitch hikers that al legedlv stabbed 20-year-old William C. Nichols in a rob berv attemptThe victim was released from Sterling's Community General Hospital Mondaymorning, following treatment for multiple stab wounds about his head and body.wNichols was driving a w hite. 1973 Datsun stationwagon when he picked up the twowhite males at the junction of routes 5.30. and 2 The two told Nichols they wanted to go to Oregon and Polo, but when they approached Sauk Valley College, ordered him to stop and attempted to rob him Galindo said that the assailants became angered when they found Nichols was carrying only $ 1 25 and one of the two then stabbed the youth in the stomach with a “kitchen type” carving knife Nichols' vehicle was later found near Tampico, the investigator said The reward is leing offered by Dr and Mrs. Charles Nichols. pa rent s of t he vict i m Anyone having information that may help police solve the case should contact Special Agent Val Galindo.
