U.C. Santa Barbara Bomb Injures WorkerSANTA BARBARA (AP) — A home made bomb exploded in the patio of the faculty club at the Unhersity of Californiaat Santa Barbara toda\. critically injuring the caretaker.Police said Dover Sharp, 55, apparently was trying to disarm the device when it went off. He was knocked back 15feet, investigators said, then,with his clothing in flames, staggered another 75 feet toward a wading pool where he apparently wanted to douse himself.Students, attracted by theblast, led him to the pool and sprinkled Mm with water.Sharp was hospitalized for surgery and treatment of extensive burns.Officers said Sharp, who lived at the club, may have heard someone plant the device on a pedestal in the corner of the patio and investigated. The blast at 6:20 a.m. broke glass doors and windows and caused an estimated SI,500 damage.investigators said the device apparently was a flammable liquid in a container.
