Angell is indicted for murders; suspect in Virginia executionsBy RUTH W, JOHNSON - Montgomery Bureau ChiefROCKVILLE — Robert Daly Angell, 19, Indicted Thursday for the killings of two Montgomery police officers on March 26, reportedly was identified Wednesday by the sole survivor of the Roy Rogers Restaurant murders in Fairfax County, Virginia, as the man who shot five of the establishment’s employes.A law enforcement official, who wishes to remain anonymous, said Montgomery police took a series of mug shots to Fairfax on Wednesday. One source said the survivor, Julie Nakpodia, 22, was looking through the group of pictures and “went crazy when she saw Angell's.A law enforcement official also said that it has been established that Angell, who was AWOL from Ft. Sill, Okla., was in the vicinity of the Fairfax slayings the night of the murders. A friend of Angell’s, James Richard Tolbert, 20, who lives in Vienna, Va., has been charged here as an accessory after the fact in the police officers’ killings. The Fairfax murders occurred in the early morning hours of March 6, when a man entered the restaurant after it closed, forced four men and Mrs. Nakpodia into a walk-in freezer, and shot all five in the head.Doctors said Mrs. Nakpodia, whose husband, Edward, 23, was one of the victims, survived because thetemperature in the freezer slowed the bleeding from her head wound.Mrs. Nakpodia gained consciousness after surgery, and immediately gave police a description of the gunman, which was developed into a composite drawing of a “rather large” white man in his late 20s, with brown hair and weighing about 180 pounds. That composite does not match Angeli’s description, but’ a law enforcement official said there was asecond drawing done later when Mrs. Nakpodia was not groggy from the anesthetic. It was drawn by an artist called in from District of Columbia police, and pictured a much younger man, who matched Angell's description more closely. But sources said Mrs. Nakpodia also has identified two other suspects .from pictures since the shootings.Meanwhile, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Atty. Robert F. HoranJr. says Angell is among many persdrfs being considered as possible suspects in the execution-styie killings at a Roy Rogers Restaurant in the county. But Horan denies a report that the one survivor of the killings has chosen AngeU’s picture as that of the man who shot her and four men in the head.A Washington radio station also quoted sources in the county police departmentSee ANGELL, page A»7
