Sheriff’s Flying Squadron Makes Numerous RaidsSheriff William H. Humes’ campaign to clean up .slot machines. punch board?- and other gambling* devices in Westmoreland county has taken on renewed activity duiing the past month, and particularly the past 10 days, an examination of the official dockets, of Alderman Bert Faust, of. Greensburg. and AUlcr man W. H-' Keefer, Monessen. today revealed.The dockets show that during the past month a Flying Squadron of special deputy sheriffs under the command of Dan “Moke” Fury of Greens burg, have made 'i'l arrests in Greensburg, Jeannette. Monessen, Youngwood. SouthGreensburg. Penn, and Rost raver township. A total of five slot machines and large numbers of punch boards of various descriptionswere confiscated in the successful raids. Eleven of those ai rested weie Ureensburjiers- And one from South Greensburg.The thee men 2nd one woman arrested for maintaining slot machines were each held for court by Alderman Faust on 3500 bonds charged with maintaining gambling and gambling devices.Of the IS arrested on official charges 01 gambling in connection with the operation of punch boards and lack pots. 14 entered pleas of guilty before Alderman Faust and two before Alderman Keefer and were each fined 33 and costs. Two ai rested last Saturday on gaming cliaiges will be given hearings before Alderman Faust in ihe near future.
