Robert Chapman, a paper maker who came to this city from Marion, Ind., last Saturday, to accept a position with the Carpenter paper mill, was found laying in the street near police headquarters, by Officer Dunbar, at 4 o’clock this morning. Chapman, it seems, had been on a protracted spree since arriving here and had spent all of his money. He was seen on the streets last night but did not seem to be intoxicated. When first seen by the officer, Chapman had staggered from the sidewalk into the street and fell to the pavement in a spasm. He was carried into police headquarters and Dr. Meatus Eckleman sent for. He responded and worked over his patient for several hours before he succeeded in reviving him. Chapman would seem to rally and then go into another spasm, his condition for some some time being critical. This afternoon, however, he appeared quite rational but did not want to talk. Little or nothing is known of his past and it has been impossible to learn whether the fellow is subject to these spasms or not. The attending physician does not apprehend any serious result and thinks Chapman can be moved to more comfortable quarters this evening.
