Firefighters kept busy through the countyBy Terry Whetstone Staff Writer And Bill Woolworth Correspondent Firefighters were busy last night and this morning all across the county. The first call went out at about 12:30 p.m. at 227 11th Street in Philipsburg Borough. Firefighters responded to the Greg and Robin Burns residence for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the home with a low reading of carbon monoxide. One resident of the home had complained of a headache, but refused to be transported to the hospital.About 10 firefighters were on the scene for about a half-hour. A blocked flue caused the alarm, Hope and Reliance fire companies were assisted by Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services.The second call went out late in the afternoon in Coalport for a flue fire near the firehall.Firefighters held the response to just one engine from Glendale Fire Co. and firefighters were only on the scene for about a half-hour. No further information was available at press time on that call.At about 8:30 p.m. last night, firefighters were called to a structure fire along the 200 block of Trolley Street in Winburne, Cooper Township. According to Cpl.‘Thomas E. Josephson, state police fire marshal, Clearfield, the cause of the fire has been ruled arson. He said the building burned before, roughly five years ago, and last night’s fire leveled it.There was no power to the building, and firefighters had a tough time with water as hoses needed to be stretched for about a half a mile from the nearest hydrant. There were no reported injuries.Larry Roach of Woodland owned the abandoned building.Cpl. Josephson said suspects have been identified and he believes the fire is related to one that burned another vacant building on March 16, also on Trolley StreetCpl. Josephson anticipates making an arrest following his investigation.The fire kept firefighters on scene for about four hours.Morris Township Fire Co., Grassflat Fire Co. and Hope and Reliance fire companies of Philipsburg assisted Winburne Fire Co. MVEMS was also on the scene.Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Fire Co. was called to the MM Trailer Court in Bigler at 1:30 a.m. today for a possible structure fire.According to Jason Wisor, fire chief, a dryer malfunctioned and caused no damage. He said firefighters were only out for about 20 minutes.Wallaeeton Fire Co., Hyde Fire Co. and Hope and Reliance of Philipsburg were canceled while responding. There were no injuries.
