THE JEFFERSON BEESubscription Price, $2.00 Per YearSTILLMAN LOVEJOY Editors and PublishersEntered at the Postoffice at Jefferson, Iowa, as second-class matter.Tho killing' of Frank Clayton, -bandit and highwayman, at Fort Dodge the other day, was an act fully justifiable as a means of unholding tho majesty of the law. Some one smuggled a revolver into his cell, and while he was let out temporarily into the hall to talk with his attorney, he jerked out the gun, shot at a deputy sheriff, and ran down stairs to make •his escape. On another floor he was sighted by Sheriff Lochray who shot twice a thim, the last bullet penetrating his heart, and he fell dead just at the exit of the building. It is said that an auto, driven by some stranger and with engine running, was standing in the street near the court house, and it is believed this was a part of the frame-up for him to get away. The prompt and deadly action of the sheriff was both necessary and justifiable, and Mr. Lochray is to bo congratulated upon his nerve. It is a hard job to kill a fellow being, but the state of society, with its deadly parasites like Clayton, makes such acts highly essential. Highwaymen must learn that their business is a hazardous one, and it is a fine thing to know that some sheriff arises to the occasion of teachingthem tho lesson to its final degree.• • *Tf: will h rvf snnpinl intfirosfc to
