NEGRO WOMAN DIED FROM POISON IS GENERAL BELIEFJim,Conway, a negro working at the Russell House, was held by the authorities this week as a material witness in a case which was being investigated. Fannie Mitchell got sick Friday afternoon and told her husband that she had eaten a piece of pie that made her ill and that Jim Conway hadgiven it to her. A Doctor was calledSaturday night when she grew worse, but she steadily grew worse and died Tu.esday. The Coroner was requested by the husband to investigate, witnesses claiming, that she had stated before death that Jim had poisoned her. There was no evidence except her statement, however, and after thoroughly going into it the jury rendered a verdict that she came to her death from unknown causes, which leaves the matter open for further'investigation or an autopsy if the county authorities decide to have it done to determine whether her statement was really true. Indications of poisoning do not appear, however, and physicians are inclined to believe that with any ordinary available poison she would not have lived as long as she did and that death was probably due to ptomaine poisoning or some digestive disorder.CHARGE CONSPIRACY INmarv Pir.kTfwiv^ nivnpfF
