SISTER ALICE WAS WITH BROOKSWoman Writes to Coroner that Burns Girl Is Innocent and that Walter Killed Himself.Coroner Brown received a letter yes-terday, signed Alice's Sister/' in which the writer said that her sister, and not Florence ‘Burns, was witih Walter Brooks the night he died In the Glen Island Hotel. The letter was postmarked “Station 0, Brooklyn, April 6.The writer supports the theory that Brooks committed suicide. The letter, Inclosing a cotton handkerchief marked with the Initial was forwarded toCapt. Titus at Police ’Headquarters. The letter is addressed To Whom It Concerns, and its salient points are as follows:To fulfil my promise to my sister— but I cannot disclose my identity unless the Burns girl's life is in danger—I will make this statement*that Florence is innocent of the crime. We were compelled to send her (referring to her sister) away, as it was with great difficulty we could keep her from testifying to prove Florence innocent. My sister was with Walter Brooks that night;;,VWetrealize the; posi tlon shesuicide. My sister is in possession ofthe 32~calibre revolver, with one bulletout of It, and a letter addressed to 'Mybeloved wife, Florence Burns Brooks,’which would show rny sister was withhim after F. left him,“My sister and Walter were friends slneo their schooldays, but on Jan. 21 Walter brought F. to my house. She was very ill. F. B. went down on her knees and says, 'Walter, for God’s sake, give me an honest name. You know 1 was pure until I loved-you.*'To clo justice in Walter, I must say he raised her gently from the floor and said to her, 'Sweetheart, It will break my heart If you keep on. Do you doubt tlhat I love you? Do you doubt I would iheftitate for a moment to make you my wife if my mother was not opposed to it?An affecting scene Is described, after which Alice” said:Now I will tell you that from this morning my friendship ceases until you come to me -and tell me F. Is yo.ur wife. If you don't make me ynur wife I willswear to God that no woman will call you ‘husband/ if I must send a bullet through your head. ,Brooks complained to Alice's Sister afterward that Allen acted, coldly toward him. Ho was advised to send her a letter.
