Suspect escapes during soda stop, is recapturedREADING - A man charged with attempted murder and burglary escaped from a constable’s car when she stopped to buy sodas on her way to prison, authorities said.David Weihe. 22, was left shackled in the back seat of Constable Carolyn Corbett's car in a convenience store parking lot while she stopped to buy two sodas, Reading*Patrol-man C.J. Mayer said.Weihe opened a rear window of the car. unlocked the door and ran away while Corbett bought tape and two sodas, according to police, store employees and court documents.Corbett was in the store for a minute and 15 seconds, investigators said. Store surveillance cameras captured the escape, showing Weihe running from the parking lot in handcufTs and leg irons as a bystander gaped.Corbett, who works in the office of her brother. District Justice Wal ly Scott, called 911 when she saw the . back door open and the defendant j gone.
