A dALUUil LIUtNotNo One Appears Against Applicant Kleindinst With a Protest.After a hearing in tin* county eom-imssioner'sa court, Saturday, during which no one appeared to make a protest against the granting of a saloon license to the Hotel Edwin, 232 West Main street, the board granted he permit. In announcing that the license would be granted. Commissioner W. C. Schwier made a statement in which le said:“A few day3 ago this application was dead for the commissioners had decided not to reissue the license. But the fight started by this man Grigg from out cf town and tho fight he made in charges against the place that he has failed to come here and sustain leaves the commissioners nothing to do but to grantit.Commissioner Schwier then called E. S. Kleindinst, manager of the Hotel Edwin company, to the bar of the courtand warned him that his place would have to be conducted strictly according to law.A. C. Borgraan, James Goodfellow and William Habits, called as character witnesses, testified as to the fitness of the applicant to sell liquor.Andrew J. Moynihn, editor of the journal •GaEette, addressed the board briefly, speaking of the charges that had been made by H. H. Grigg, of Kendall Ville, superintendent for Indiana of the World’s Purity leagi^, that Port Wayna was a sink hole of iniquity and that the Hotel Edwin was a thoroughly bad place, and said if any one knew anything against the hotel he would like to have the information presented intestimony before the board. He saidhis only purpose was to dear the goo„ name of the eity and to drive out bad places if there were any. He filed with the board some publications in his own newspaper and in the Fort Wayne News bearing upon the Grigg charges.
