(Indiana seldom brand ponies.)Having: recovered iheir stock, the party started back and at Wilford, a small Mormon settlement near the Bum-mit of the mountains, they met a young man named Bliven, a brother of the no-tori oiifl Andy Cooper. Bliven was said to be one of the two men who stole the stock, so the Indians captured him. He went with them a short distance, but suddenly broke away, drew his revolver and began firing at the Indians, w ho returned his shots. One shot struck Bliven in the thigh, hut lie managed to escape to a ranch near by, and the men living there prepared for a 6iege. Tiie Indians, however, drew off and left them, being satisfied to get back theif stock.Buch troubles are serious, and if the white men don't unite in putting a stop to this stealing from the Navajo’s, we may see terrible times along this river from it. Its all very well to talk about the Navajo’s being thieves themselves . We all know and admit that*‘two wrongs don't make one right” and any old frontiersman knows that acts of reprisal against Indians always ends in bloodshed, in which, while eventually the Indians are put down, many a good man is cruelly murdered.There are too many outlying and widely separated cow camps scattered around through this country to suffer from such a raid. This lawless and un-responsible element must be put down, or it will cost us dear.The Reynolds cattle company attempted to round up their cattle lust week, tnany of which work over into theNava-jocountry. They sent an ou fit of about eight or ten men over there; it being in facta general effort on the pmt of all the cow men down here to work their cattle from Indian land.The Navajo's however went to their camp in a large body and threatened the entire party with death unless they left at once. Needless to Hay the boy3left, and now we are wondering how in hades we are going to get our cattle back.Mr. E. It. Carr,for four years the manager of the Waters cattle company, of Winslow, has resigned and is going back to Missouri. His successor, Mr. Cooper, an old Indian frontier cow man is here now' looking over the range. I understand Mose Tato will still be foreman, and they couldn't fiud a better man.Weather still hot and no signs of rain or snow to help the spring grass.liAMrhMAN .
