Upon coming in speaking distance ef the Browns tbeSheriff ordered them to hait. Bello Brown answered by owning fire on the pursuing party, without any effect, however. Some one of the Sheriff's posse responded to the fire ofrown, and proved to b3 a letter marksman than the ruffian, as he rolled from his saddle to the ground almost at the crack of the rifle. Mr. Russell found the Winchester they took w ith them when they were released from the -jail of lit is county, and says he wiij send it back. If their inclination to steal had not been so great, they might have made good tbejr escape It was by indulging iu this passion that led to their arrest iu this county. Yielding to this predilection caused the death of Bello Brown and resulted in the capture of John Brown by Sheriff Russell. If they had not stolen tiuee horses from the neighborhood of Magdalena, the Sheriff would not have struck their trail so readily and so hot. Home of, them were the property of ex-sheriff Hubbell. They made no attempt at concealment, but drove them in broadday across the country' UP in the Mogollon mountains. The Indians followed in a day or two, acoompanied by Mr. Hubbell and a constable.
