Joseph Holden was indicted for stealing on the. 5th of SVXarcb last, 8 lbs. of pork, two dead rabbits, a black pud* ding, c«, the property of his master, John Symes, of Lam* beth-walk.The prisoner lied been in the employment of the prosecutor for six months. On the evening in question he left his work. The prosecutor was soon after sent for to the station-house, where he found the prisoner with the property in question. He had no right to take any thing out of the shop without his master's leave.William Goose, a policeman, stopped the prisoner on Lambeth-green, about 200 yards from the prosecutor's premises. He denied that he had anything except a great coat, but on putting it aside he found the property named in the indictment, On being told that he must go to the station-house, he said it would ruin him, and he would give all the money he had in his possession to the policeman if he would let him go.The prisoner raid he had worked hard and late for very small wages. He had been for twenty-three years in one employment, and had never been in custody before. He had a wife and family, and had only 7s, a-week.Verdict—Guilty. Sentence, three months* imprisonment and hard labour.
