A. J. Earll. It was alleged that McAfee held up E. C. Cuthberson on the night of March 28. He was accused of stealing a diamond from Cuthber-son which was worth $75. McAfeeproved an alibi at his preliminary hearing, so he was dismissed. He was arrested after he had taken a diamond to Pearl Brothers, where he asked to have the stone priced. This was used as evidence against him. McAfee had a black eye, which the police thought he received while he was alleged to have held up Cuthberson. McAfee also showed conclusively where he “contracted” the darkened opti£, so he was allowed to go free by the court.
