PROMINENT CITmSLASHED 61 NEGROM«l» Organized (o Ljnch Negro But Efforts Were Foiled by Authorities.Special to The Reporter.TEXARKANA, April 2—Ernest Hale, white, a prominent citizen of Texarkana, was disemboweled by a knife in the hands of Doc McClain, a negro, near here today. They had quarreled over a cotton settlement.Hale was brought to town at once and placed in a sanitarium where at a late hour tonight he was still alive but his death expected hourly. The negro was captured by a posse of officers but on returning to town withthe prisoner met a mob organized tolynch the black assailant. After a clever maneuver they eluded the mob and brought the prisoner on to the city jail for safe keeping. Violence is not feared by the authorities.
