(Vatter photo)Underwater search resumes for missing Derry womanTUNNELTON — An underwater, search resumed todav in the_Conemaugh River near the Tunnelton Bridge near where the abandoned car of Lee Ann Kowalsky, 19, of 216 West Owens Ave., Derry, was found early Wednesday morning along Legislative Route 32002.Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Robert Taylor of the Greensburg Barracks said the young woman’s car was discovered around 6 a.m. with the keys in the ignition switch. He asks that anyone who may have seen the car or thegirl between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday get in touch with state police at 832*3288, or contact Kiski Valley state police at 727-3434.US Army Corps of Engineers employees at Conemaugh Dam, upriver from the Tunnelton bridge, closed sluices on the dam Thursday morning to lower the water level in the Tunnelton area and permit a more thorough search but due to heavy rainfall runoff, the sluices were re-opened at noon and closed again late last night. The water had risen four feet above normal levelsas runoff was released from the dam.Scuba divers from the Saltsburg, Indiana and Greensburg fire departments re-entered the river this morning to resume the search.Water and land searches havebeen conducted along the river bank and also resumed today. Water levels were expected to vary from as little as 18 inches to as much as 15 feet in spots, firemen report.According to Trooper Taylor, the young woman’s mother has no knowledge of her daughter’s whereabouts.
