Q€edtoesG-It,Ig!n:einitt.‘rer.itr-)tyenteHigh School Athlete Killed [ ;hy Four Unidentified : Youths in Woods.HIS i FRIENDS ESCAPE! ij j .j - ■IGary; April 3.—A 17-yar-oldbasketball and track star at Emersonhigh school, Albert Ander-son,was shot and killed late yesterday as he and four friends sought to recover a rifle and knife stolen by four unidentified Souths.Anderson, point winner in the hurdles at the state high school track meet last week, was shot just1, below the heart as the four youths, all armed, poured two volleys | at him and his companions.*None of his companions were injured. 1j j; Julius Thompson, Wilbur Mar-cotte, Alex Ordinsky and Albert Poparditch, went with Anderson for a walk along the wooded Dunes area near the city late today. ;The boys said they met two smaller boys whose names they did not learn and the pair told them the four youths had just stolen a .22 calibre rifle and knife from them.Anderson and his friends promised the boys to attempt to get the rifle and knife back. They spotted four youths ahead in the woods and when they called to the boys to give them the rifle they wereanswered by rifle fire.Anderson was fatally wounded and his companions fled to notify police. The other boys escaped.
