Superintendent of La Crosse County Insane Asyium Not Guiltyof Charges.La Crosse, Wis., March 20.—[Special.]—The report of the special county boardcommittee, appointed to investigatecharges against Supt. C. S. MeKown ofthe La Crosse county insane asylum, reported today, in the regular meeting, the result of their investigation.Mr. MeKeown declared not guilty and was exonerated by the committee from most of the charges, such as giving away articles belonging to the county, that the patients were subject to general abuse, and that bad meat ana sour bread were given to the patients. The report says that there was evidence that on one or two occasions meat and gravy were warmed over and were found to be tainted. As soon as this was done the stuff was thrown away. That if grain was mixed with coffee it was beneficial to the patients, as medical testimony showed. The patients were found to be properlyclothed and housed.Regarding undue force being used at times, the report says that sometimes this might have occurred while Supt. MeKeown was away on other duties, and if he heard of it the attendant was discharged or reprimanded.Everyone seems to be glad at the result. This was the second investigation and resulted as did the first.. It cost the county §1000 and 100 witnesses were examined. Mr. MeKeown will be retained by the county without question.
