Col. W'int Smith, director of the Kansas highway patrol telephoned the information to his assistant, Frank Stone.‘’Smith said he believed Karpis had been there but had left,” Stone announced.The raid was made early yesterday. Smith arrived at the scene after it was made.; Three Reported Seized: Hot Springs, Ark., March 31.—• •’ Department of justice agents yesterday surrounded and seized a farmhouse on . the. On that occasion, the man believed To be Karpis disappeared before officers arrived.Neighbors of the* two couples who rented the house .a month ago expressed belief the agents were after Karpis yesterday. . .Chief Deputy Sheriff Roy Emery of Garland ‘county .said : the. house was the same in which .Charles ‘‘Pretty Boy” Floyd was believed to have hidden out for a month shortly before he was shot to death.
