KILLING IN LEWISArlie Fannia Shot by Frank Logan Through a Window.DRUNKEN ROW THE CAUSEBoth Parties to Killing Are Under Arrest and in Jail at Vance-burg — Another Chapterin Bad Booze.Over in Lewis county on Grassy, about six miles from here, last Sunday afternoon near the hour of 4 p. m , that community was darkened by a murder, and as is common in this community, whiskey was the direct cause of the entire trouble. It seems from the best we get it, that Frank and Robert Logan, brothers, on one side, and Arlie, Sherman and Esmond Fannin, brothers, on the other side, had been and was drinking freely, with the exception of Arlie Fannin who it is said does not drink, when Esmond Fannin and Frank Logan became involved in a quarrel that ended in a fight with Logan getting the best of the game.Fannin then ran to the homeof his brother, Arlie Fannin, and told him of the trouble, when he and his two brothers procured an automatic shot gun and went back to the home of Frank and Robert Logan and demanded that they come out, and they, of jcourse, failed to do it; and, it issaid, Arlie, who had the gun, went around the house to the!window' and pushed it out, FrankLogan then took a shot at him with a 45 caliber pistol that took effect in his neck and he died in 30 minutes. As he was being taken away he told them he waskilled. Then, it is said Sherman,his brother, took the gun and went back to the window and the Logan hoys took the gunaway from him through the window', and wfas only slightly wounded in the wrist at the hands of Frank Logan.The Fannin boys then being unarmed retreated and w’ere followed by Frank Logan w ho emptied his pistol at them and beat one of them over the head cut- jting three gashes in his head, but it is thought none of themserious. Frank Logan had sold them the whiskey they were all |drinking.yat Cooper held the inquest and Sheriff Frank Ly-kins came to the scene as soon as word reached him and arrested the Fannin boys, lodging Sherman in jail and Esmond bonduntil Thursday when the examining trial will be held at Vance-burg.The two Logan boys went immediately after the shooting and surrendered to Sheriff Vancebnrg and are in Arlie Fannin leaves a four children, his wife being the widow of the late James DeB who was killed in the miArmstrong a few years a
