Kong, of course was a man in a gorilla suit Why this man didn't look awfully small compared to the airplanes is not explained The fact is that the airplane scenes were filmed in New' York using U. S Navy pursuit planes and pilots maneuvering around the real Empire State Building These shots were intercut with scenes of miniature airplanes with a miniature (18-inch) Kong on a miniature building A mock-up of the top of the building was built in the studio for closeups of Fay Wray. Bruce Cabot and Robert Armstrong after Kong's fall.
