‘Do more for youths’AN appeal to the leaders of the Jamaica Federation of Women to do more for the young people in the society was made by the president of the Federation, Lady Allan, In her message to the annual general meeting of the organization.Lady Allan appealed to the parish administration and presidents to do all in their power to influence the young people, to try to correct them with friendship and love.So many people only criticizethe past, but there are thos^jgholook back to the leAns of the past to guide us today,' sr.e said. “Let us be thankful that the practice of service, of looking out for the welfare of our communities, the young and the old. Is a part of that past we hold dear.Lady Allan said the Federation was grateful for the people and organizations that were putting out such great efforts. In spite of the hardships, to make Jamaica a better place, “and this is where we must give thanks to God.“We in the Jamaica Federation of Women need to take time to remember and indeed to assess where we are coming from and what we have achieved through the organization. We have done much ' for which we are justly proud.The annual report, presented j5y the chairman, Mrs. Carole Dias, recorded the period under review ashaving been a busy and rewarding one.“Our efforts, for the most part, have been directed towards our basic schools which are soil in need for help, and to the members of our organization who suffered substantial losses In Hurricane Gilbert, the report said.Schools In Kingston. St. Catherine. St. Elizabeth. Portland and Hanover received assistance with general repairs,, building supplies and equipment.Ms. Libbylu Allen, the JFW teacher trainer, who Is charge of the basic schools programme, returned In November from a refresher course in child development, and resumed visiting the basic schools to ascertain their status and pressing needs.
