Lafew, dean of Randolph-Macon Woman’s college, Lynchburg, will retire at the end of the summer after more than 50 years’ association with the college.Dr. Larew is the daughter of the late Capt. I. H. Larew and the late Mrs. Gillie Augusta Glendy, Pulaski, and sister of A.M. Larew and Mrs? Thomas Von Furrh, Pulaski, and Mrs. T. E. Tabor, New-bern.Upon her graduation in 1903, Miss Larew joined the faculty. In 1950, she was appointed dean of the college. She had served as acting dean in 1943.Known as an outstanding mathematician, Miss Larew is a member of the American Mathematical''So-ciety, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Virginia t Academy of Science and S^mJ Xi.She is past chairman of the Vir- . ginia, Maryland and District of Columbia section of the Mathematical Association of America and also a member of the council of the association. . ,Honored By Gift In 1948, Miss Larew was honored by a gift from the alumnae association to the college for the endowment of the Gillie A. Larewchair of mathematics, given in honor of “Randolph-Macon’s most valuable alumna.”She is a charter member and past president of the Delta of Virginia chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.Miss Larew has served as vice president of the South Atlantic region of the American Associatito of University Women. She is a* past president of the Lynchburg brapch and of the Virginia division of the organization. .At__*
