Republicans The French republican voters of wards six and seven are stirred up over the treatment their representa tives are receiving from the republican leaders in these two wards, and there is likely to be something doing that will surprise the republicans of the city at the next election. The trouble is all over John H. Beaulieu and Louis Lebrun. Last year Beaulieu wanted the re publican aldermanic nomination from ward six but he was persuaded to re main out of the fight in the interest of Mr. Badger, the promise being made that if he did so, he would be given the nomination for representative in that district, this year. Now it hap pens that Mr. Stearns who had an idea of running for senator, has decid ed to let Cheney and McKinley fight it out between them, and when his friend Badger became acting mayor, the representative saw a chance to place Beaulieu out of the way. He got Badger to promise Beaulieu that he would put him on the board of health if Beaulieu would announce his retire ment from the representative fight so that Stearns could have a third term. Beaulieu agreed to this and he is still waiting for the board of health job, with the chances against him getting it. And with Lebrun it is a little differ ent. He wants the mayor to nominate him for the board of health and says that he has the aldermen. The mayor turns a deaf ear to Lebrun and Louis is still turning the key at the jail. Now the French voters want to know where they come in. Here are things promised them by the republican lead ers and the goods are not delivered in return for the bargain made. Beaulieu will be a factor in the next election and unless all signs fail the republicans will have to do some tall explaining to get the French vote as they had it in the past. It is said that if Charles Howe de cides to become a candidate for the repaiiian nomination for mayor, it will be to keep other men out of the field and make it easier for Wilson for the nomination. Howe wants to be police commissioner and if he suc ceeds in carrying out the little game and John Wilson is nominated and elected, Charlie Howe will be Wilson's man, ie jn mat mamakally kmesum thet thena
