Miss Gunnison of Hastings Places Nationally, HASTINGS, Neb. (UP). Miss Ethel Mae Gunnison, Hastings college orator who won the state peace oratorical contest last year, was one of six from more than 500 contestants to receive honor able mention in the national con test sponsored by the intercollegi ate peace association, Prof. Leroy T. Laase announced, Miss Gunni son’s honorable mention oration “Thumbs Down,” also was among the twelve selected to be published as peace declamations by the Ohio and Illinois council of churches. She is now a teacher of speech at Madison, 8. D. Discussing the problem of ma ternity deaths, Miss Norma Cope, freshman of Trumbull, won the mid-year Hastings college oratori cal contest. Her oration, “The Light of Life,” was judged super ior to those of seven men and two other women student speakers.
