i/0 Birth{Continued from Page 1) have two other children, Bryan, 13, and Tracy, 9, who were at school when Jennifer was born,Linda, who was due Oct. 2, planned to deliver Jennifer at Asbury-Salina Regional Medical Center.But her water broke shortly before noon Tuesday, while she was drying dishes.Eric was watching television and went to the kitchen to talk to his mother, He walked in just as she was lying down on the floor.“I said, ‘Mommy’s going to have her baby now,’ ” Linda said. At first it didn’t register with him, she said. But when she told him to go get a blanket and sterile pads and scissors,he obeyed without question,“He was really good. He even had to climb on a chair to get the scissors,” Linda said.Linda had delivered Bryan and home and knew what needed to be done. Even though she planned to have Jennifer at the hospital, she was prepared because of her quick labor with Eric, she said.Linda explained what was happening to Eric as he sat at her feet and watched the birth,“That’s more than we ever expected him to see,” Jack said, “At the most we thought he would only see the baby after she had been cleaned up.”When he saw his sister’s head emerge, he smiled.“He was smiling and said i likethat, I think we can keep her,’ ” Linda said. “But when he saw the placenta, he said, ‘Don’t keep that, putitback.’ ”Blood on the baby concerned Eric, who thought she had been hurt. “But I reassured him that she wasn’t bleeding and that she was going to be all right,” Linda said.Jack, who had been grocery shopping, arrived home less then 10 minutes after his daughter was born and found Linda leaning against the cabinets on the kitchen floor holding their new child.Linda tied off the umbilical cord and cut it. The birth was over in about 30 minutes.“There was not time to be concerned about what could go wrong,” Linda said. “It just happened so fast.”
