The first meeting of the ’42-'43 season of the Portage PTA vu held Tuesday evening in the band room of Portage high school in Crisman. Rev. H. W. Franklin presided in the absence of Mrs. Adam Schiller, new PTA president. Rev. Alvin Vender walker of the McCool Methodist church, opened the meeting with a prayer. Miss Mary Miller, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting, May 5, 1942, which were approved. Mrs E, A. Kidwell spoke briefly on the importance o£ the present scrap drive, after which O. D. Pranks, professor of botany at the University of Chicago spoke on children and teachers, jumping suddenly to plants and vegetables but with a fine connecting link. The next meeting will be on Oct. 6.At Monday night's meeting of the auxiliary of American Legion post 260, plans were made to send Christmas gifts to the sons of themembers of the auxiliary and post, who are serving in the armed forces. Mrs. Joseph Parker is chairman. It was also decided to buy two service flags for the hut, one for the sons of members and one for boys m the surrounding communities who are m the armed forces. Anyone having a son or sons in service should leave their names and addresses with Mrs. Mae June in Crisman or Mrs. Joseph Parker in Gary ton. Mrs. Rudolph Westergren and Mrs. Rymond Fenske were placed in charge of Saturday night’s dance.Mr. and Mrs. Leif Sandersen, Mi's. Ralph Blair and Mrs. E. Sandersen visited relatives in Chicago Sunday.Mrs. Lawrence Anderson, Mrs-Elmer Anderson, Mrs. Norman Kae-mmerer, Mrs. Roy Kaemmerer and Mrs. William Anderson celebrated Mrs. Nels Anderson’s 71st birthday Tuesday in the Anderson home in Garyton.Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Szparaga from South Chicago, have moved into their home in Crisman which they recently purchased from the Martin Kubiaks’, who moved to Gary.
