jADAMS CAPTUREDL-sicidi«Ise.fugitive Culprit From West Virginia Caught In New Mexico,C. E.-Adams, the man who escaped from the Kanawha county jail May Sth, while awaiting bis sentence for burning the depot at Kayford, was captured re* cently a few miles north of Sante Fe, New Mexico, hy Sheriff John J- Melton of Kanawha county, and Detective Melton of the Baldwin Detective Agency, Sheriff Melton sent a telegram to Chief Clerk Ham Morris, notifying him of the fact and stated that they were ready to start at once.Sheriff Melton received word that a man answering the description of Adams was working on the railroad near Sante Ft, New Mexico. Mr, Melton left on the first tram after receiving the information. In company with Detective Payne he went to the railroad camp and very soon thereafter Adams was in their custody. He had changed considerably since leaving Charleston, but the officers experienced very little difficulty in identifying him. They are expected back about Saturday morning. He will then be immediately sentenced by Judge Black.It will be remembered that Adams burned the depot at Kayford, a station on the Cabin Creek branch of the Chesapeake Ohio road and then shot himself in the leg to make it appear that he wag protecting the company's property. He also robbed the company of some $5,000, n greater portion of which was recovered. Ho was arrested and tried at the April term of the Intermediate court being defended by ex-Police Judge W, W. Wertz. lie was convicted but while • awaiting for his sentence, he sawed his way out of the county jail and mado has eacapo.Ora Monday, afternoon Judge Black sentenced Adams to a term of nine years in the State penitentiary.
