Gernon won her first golfchampionship when she was 14, the Maple Bluff country club women’s title. The next year she won the western junior association championship.- After winning the women's western golf championship in 1926--on the Olympia Fields course. Chicago, Mrs. Gemon was picked as a possible national champion. She never won the national honor, but she did capture the state titles in 1927, 1930 and 1931.Mrs. Gernon won Phi Beta Kappa honors at the University of Wisconsin. She was graduated in 1930.
