“That nortfaslde citizens of Kokomo hope to 1lave several representatives on high school basketball teams this year. They’ve been producing players through the Carvercenter athletic program. Lee Hizer, Jim Greer, Clay Moore, Ernest Beard, Grant Waldon and Richard Morgan . are all ex-members of Carver center's Junior Comets. They plan to try out for high school teams this fail. . f“The Junior Comets were the j most colorful athletic team representing the center last season. Although they didn’t begin too successfully, they displayed all the if ire, fun and indefatigability that ■ characterizes-’ li - to-17 - year-olds, j These traits plus experience taught j these kids how to pour points through the nets .and by the end of last season they were easily the equal of the older and larger Senior Comets. Just as the Junior Comets were really afire, they had to disband so that their members would be eligible to try out for high school teams.“There are other phases of Carver center’s program of preparing youngsters for high school athletics. For instance, recently they held a six-day basketball clinic. William Bradley, former Rushville and X. U. star had charge. Fundamentals and blackboard drills were stressed. The clinic was free to any Kokomo boy of age 10 or more.“Of course, the athletic program is only one small phase of parver center’s work, but it typifies the way*in which this.Red Feather' service prepares its- yoiinger members to take wholesome, constructive places in society.”
