The public is cordially invited to tour the schoolfacilities and to participate in the tenth year celebration.rHistoryCedar Creek School opened in September, 1970, with 325 students enrolled in grades K-10 and housed in two classroom buildings and the gymnasium. Enrollment has grown each year, and along with it, the need to expand the facilities. By 1980, the eleventh year of operation, 740 students are enrolled in grades K-12. These students represent 20 towns within a 50 mile radius of Ruston.The Cedar Creek campus is comprised of nine buildings con taining 76,000 square: feet, playgrounds, and athletic fields spread over 37 acres of beautiful pineland. Air conditioning, carpeting, modem equipment, furnishings, and books complete the atmosphere for learning. Total investment exceeds $1,250,000.A building fund provides the capital for the facilities, books, equipment, and all the “extras” that make Cedar Creek a top quality school. These funds are raised through an annual contribution campaign conducted by the Cedar Creek parents. Ben James, Tommy James, Jerry Johnston, and Charles Killgore, has responsibility for development, coordination and financial arrangement of both short and long range educational and physical plant programs. An Executive Council serves as a support function for day-to-day operation of the school and develops growth plans. The president of the Parents Booster Club serves on this Council.The faculty of Cedar Creek is the major factor contributing to its sue cess. All 46 teachers are certified with the majority holding advanced degrees. French, Spanish, typing, contemporary history, home economics, industrial arts, vocal and instrumental music, art, physical education, and business education are included in the present curriculum. Driver education is also offered. The curriculum is constantly being revised to meet the changing needs of th$ student body. Honors classes are available in several courses.All juniors take the A£T test in their junior year. For the nine years the juniors have taken the ACT, the average score for Cedar Creek students is 20, which is higher than 73% of those taking the test throughout the nation. The Louisiana state average score is 16.Sixty percent of the Cedar Creek students who competed in the State Literary Rally at Louisiana Tech University in 1980 scored in the top five. The Booster Club serves the entire school by providing committee support in areas such as landscaping, finance, athletics, publicity, first aid, special projects, and school hospitality. The Booster Club sponsors the Annual OpenHouse, the Halloween Carnival, and the Straw Market in addition to supporting various school organizations with travel funds. The club arranged the financing of and donated the present administration building to the school.lt;• • ■. •-j•} lt;*-»»ActivitiesA lot goes on at Cedar Creek-Student Council, Varsity Singers, Cheerleaders, Cougarettes, Emerald Entertainers Drill Team, FHA, Speech Club, Art Club, Band, Foreign Language Clubs, National Honor Society, and National Junior Honor Society, 4-H Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, homecoming, carnivals, dances and organizing a yearbook and school newspaper. These and many other social activities add to the fun and learning.The Cedar Creek motto ‘‘Super Omnia- -Best of All' also applies in the area of athletics. A philosophy of total program and individual development is a major factor in ali athletic 'activities. Varsity teams are fielded in football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls track, baseball, softball, and tennis. Intramural sports are incorporated into the elementary grades.The athletic tradition at Cedar Creek is a rich one. TheCougars have won five state championships in basketball and on two other occasions were state finalists. Cougars have been runners-up in the state track meet, and Lady Cougars have been champions and runners up in ladies' track.
