ARCAND- Mr. Damas Arcand, age 93, late of Debden, passed away in the Shellbrook hospital on September 23, 2009.Damas was bom in Duck Lake on June 26, 1916 to Helen and Jean-13 aptiste Arcand. His family moved to the Mattes area when he was 3, and in spite of never going to school, he became a math whiz. He enjoyed cards, checkers, and family gatherings. He married Bella Vandal, and the couple raised 9 children. There was time for fun, music, and dancing, and working hard the next morning. He loved fiddle music and jigging. He won the Canadian Red River jigging competition in the 2000 Fiddle Fest at age 84. He also won several trophies playing pool. He was a happy good-natured man who never complained. We will always treasure the memories and miss him very much.Damas will be remembered by, his children, Lillian (Orville) Hinson of Debden, Edward (May) Arcand of Debden, Ann (Richard) Bezdutny of Gimli, RIB, Ida (Garnet) Stene of Shellbrook, Marcel (Ann) Arcand of Prince Albert, Simone (Emile) Handfield ofCamrose AB, Frank Arcand of Debden, Frederick (Karen) Arcand of Christopher Lake; the mother of his children, Bella Arcand; many grandchildrem, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; his sister-in-law Ada (Albert) Arcand; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Bruno Arcand; his sisters, Elizabeth (William) Vandal, Argentine (Celestin) Gerard; his brothers, William (Ada) Arcand, Joseph (Louise) Arcand, Gabriel (Alexina) Arcand, Roger (Josephine) Arcand, Victor (Emma) Arcand, George (Alice) Arcand, Wilfred (Eva) Arcand, Albert Arcand.The Vigil of Prayer was held at St. Jean the Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Debden on September 28 at 7:30pm, led by Chantal Bisson. The Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Jean the Baptiste Roman Catholic Church on September 29 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Fr. Bemabe Millan Sajonas as celebrant. The eulogy was given by Shondelle Munro. The music leaders were Rhonda Davidson and Louise Marchildon. The pallbearers were Norman Arcand, Orville Arcand, Phillip Arcand, Marcel Compagna, Rick Hinson and James Arcand.Memorial donations may be made to the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Renovation project.The interment was held in the Park Valley Cemetery.Condolences e-mailed to www.beaulacfuner-alhome.com will be forwarded to the family.Beau”Lac” Funeral Home is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
