Garfield Ave., celebrated her 90th birthday last weekend with an open house in her home.Born Oct. 20, 1879, in County Down, Ireland, Mrs. McGowan came to this country about 62 years ago. She lived in Chicago about three years and then moved to Janesville.Mrs. McGowan’s husband, William J., was a building contractor here before his death. The McGowans .were married in Ireland.’Mrs. McGowan has sevenchildren: William J. McGowan, Milwaukee; Mrs. J..F. Hose, Shorewood; Hamilton L. McGowan, Milwaukee; Mrs. Ralph Truesdill, Mrs. Albert Struebin and Mrs. Adolph Zitzer, all of Janesville, and James A..McGowan, Wichita, Kan. She has 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.Mrs. McGowan, accompanied by Mrs. Rose and William McGowan, took a three-week tour of Ireland last month.
