Springer, Carlyle H.VIROQU A/JANESVILLE—Carlyle H. Springer, age 80. of Route #3, Viro-qua died Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, 1909, at Vernon Memorial Hospital of cancer. He was born on Jan. 24,1919 in Viroqua to Albert and Cora (Ber-quist) Springer. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and during World War II served from March, 1941 until September, 1945 in the U.S. Army. He saw combat in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe where he was wounded in action. After the war he served two years in the Merchant Marines and then worked in Janesville at the GM plant. On August 8, 1952, he married Dorothy Brown at Waukon, IA. He also farmed in the Viro-qua-Westby area and from 1970 until 1984 worked for the Vernon County Highway Department. Following his retirement he worked for the Viroqua Recycling Program for several years. He was a member of the Viroqua Church of Christ, VFW Post No. 3032 and the DAVE Chapter No. 37.Carlyle is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 4 daughters: Janice (James) Connell of Janesville, Connie (Rick) Diestelmeier of Elizabeth, IL, Carol (Robert) Getter of Viroqua, and Donna Dyer of Westby; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mabel Jenson of Beloit, Arlyle (Harold) Bjornstad of Edgerton, and Lucille (Julius) Ellefson of Viroqua; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Herbert, in infancy, and Alvin Springer; and 3 sisters: Ethel Clark, Helen Urbanek, and Doris Marshall.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Mon., Oct. 18, 1999, at the VIROQUA CHURCH OF CHRIST, with Pastor Ron Ahlgren officiating. Burial will be in the Bethanv Lutheran Church Cemetery at Esofea with Military Rite by Running-Johnson VFW Post #3032 Honor Guard. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the THORSON FUNERAL HOME in Viroqua where there will be a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church from Noon until time of services on Monday.
