He climbed on top erf the car, threw a blanket over the barbed wire atop the gate and leaped inside the compoundOnce inside, he sprinkled holy water on the missile silo doors, circled the missile seven times and stood atop the concrete silo doors as he pointed south, west, north and east.After performing for 20 minutes. Sauder yelled. “I'm just going to wait for someone to come ”At 8:13 am, two Air Force security officers arrived at the outer gate. They briefly questioned an uninvolved family whose car had a flat tire by the gate entranceOf the officers, a family member said. “They looked serious They put on their bulletproof vests and got out their guns We didn't know what was going on ”The officers drove up the access road and stopped to question the Gazette reporter and photographer who had stopped in front erf a no trespassing sign.One of the officers got out of the small military truck and moved behind it. Carrying an automatic rifle, he followed the truck as it moved toward the gate. The officers ordered Sauder down from the silo, searched him and detained him.Sauder earlier had handed the reporter a two-page letter discussing the danger of nuclear weaponry He also presented a three-page letter asking others to join in such non-violent protests.He suggested that others might copy his actions or refuse to pay the “military portion of the income taxLater at an arraignment in Little Rock, Federal Magistrate Robert Faulkner told Sauder that the bond was so high because Sauder refused to give the FBI access to information about his background.“We know very little about you, Faulkner said I don't know anything about vou. either.” Sauder said
